On letting ideas change their mind

Attachment to first versions

It’s easy to become attached to the first version of an idea.

Once written, it can feel permanent — as though changing it means admitting failure or inconsistency.

Growth as revision

But ideas aren’t statements. They’re processes.

Revising a thought doesn’t erase the earlier version. It simply reflects movement.

Permission to evolve

Allowing ideas to change removes pressure.

There’s no need to protect them. No need to prove they were right from the beginning.

Staying open

The most useful ideas seem to be the ones willing to shift.

They remain open long enough to meet new understanding.
